Thursday Evening Rambly Bits

-- My post about the No on #1 sign was apparently picked up by both Universal Hub and the Brookline TAB blog, so welcome to anyone who's wandered over here from there.

-- [personal profile] ragingpixie asked for a photo of the tastiest thing in my fridge or pantry, but at the moment all she'd get is a photo of aluminum pans (containing baked ziti and chocolate carrot cake cupcakes), so I think I'll hold off until I cook something more photogenic.

-- Speaking of photos, I took this one this morning:

Do Not Disgard...

-- I've discovered that the most convenient place to store the cable needle I'm using to make the scarf in my icon when I'm between bits that require it is between my teeth. I'm trying to decide how odd that is.

I am not sure whether I am more disturbed by the misspelling in that sign or by the fact that apparently some people need a reminder that the toilet is not a trash receptacle.

I know. However, those signs are common in ladies' rooms.

was that you who tried to correct the spelling?

[identity profile] gnomi.livejournal.com 2008-05-09 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, the sign was already that way when I saw it.

First you gard it, then you disgard it, then you regard it, then you disregard it.

It makes perfect sense.

I've discovered that the most convenient place to store the cable needle I'm using to make the scarf in my icon when I'm between bits that require it is between my teeth. I'm trying to decide how odd that is.

What's so odd about holding things in one's teeth? I've been known to temporarily hold a crochet hook in my toes when I need it to be out of the crochet-in-progress and out of the way for a few moments... Although you might want to watch out for odd looks - yesterday I told one of the teachers that the back of her head reminded my of a clock because of the angle of the two writing implements she had stuck into her hair (in bun form).

Yeah, odd looks are a potential worry. Although I've really only been working on this project at home, and so far [personal profile] mabfan hasn't given me any odd looks about the cable needle in my muth.

[identity profile] sydmcginley.livejournal.com 2008-05-09 12:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe mabfan doesn't dare.
I am imagining you looking piratical as you knit.

Yaaar! :-)

[identity profile] gnomi.livejournal.com 2008-05-09 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
A number of my friends use this technique; one of these days, I should learn it.

Cupcakes are YUMMY! But okay, I'll wait. ;)

[identity profile] gnomi.livejournal.com 2008-05-09 12:33 pm (UTC)(link)
They're unfrosted, so they're less yummy-looking (though they're quite tasty). I have to make more frosting.

There used to be a sign in the bathrooms in one of the Holy Bagel branches which opened with "Dear Costumers".

I tried fixing it with my pen but it was laminated.

Unlike your catch however, even performing a spellcheck wouldn't have helped with this particular typo.

So many costumers frequent that place that there's a special sign for them? Sounds like fun!

[identity profile] gnomi.livejournal.com 2008-05-09 12:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I love it. Costumers get their own signage.

To not flush paper towels was a long standing rule in the house of one of the WSFA members. Apparently at one meeting, rather than looking under the sink for more toilet paper, someone just used paper towels, clogging up the toilet. So, at each meeting at that house, there was a reminder during the meeting to look under the sink and not use paper towels. We no longer meet at that house, but each host does have unique rules, such as asking the host before eating anything out of the fridge or to not lick the cats.

[identity profile] gnomi.livejournal.com 2008-05-09 03:26 pm (UTC)(link)
In my mind, "Don't lick the cat" is *always* a good house rule. :-)
