Bust Dart Math!

I was wondering what the spam in question was selling.

Then I saw your usericon and it suddently parsed.

[identity profile] gnomi.livejournal.com 2008-06-19 03:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that's exactly what happened when I first saw the subject line. I then looked at the sender (a knitting site) and said, "Oh, cool!" (the e-mail discusses math required for constructing certain types of knit objects).

Wait, wait -- was that a real thing? For that could actually be a handy thing to be able to figure out with more prowess than I currently do!

[identity profile] gnomi.livejournal.com 2008-06-19 04:10 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a real thing. I can forward if you want.

Could you, would you?

[identity profile] cbpotts.livejournal.com 2008-06-19 04:12 pm (UTC)(link)
From your house?

Could you, would you, with a mouse?

Could you, would you, from near to far?

Could you, would you, with a car?

(In all seriousness, I would love to see this.)

Sent. I'm not sure the photos came through; if not, I'll resend when I'm not Webmail-dependent (this evening, for example).

[identity profile] csbermack.livejournal.com 2008-06-19 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
me too, please?

I've read some stuff about knitting darts, and I want to read more, because it seems tricksy-but-awesome.

[identity profile] gnomi.livejournal.com 2008-06-19 06:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Sent! (to your @mit address)

[identity profile] csbermack.livejournal.com 2008-06-19 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
thanks!

Hey, I wouldn't even use it for knitting, only for sewing pattern drafting, and I'm STILL an audience.

[identity profile] gnomi.livejournal.com 2008-06-19 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
If you want me to forward it, let me know.

[identity profile] madknits.livejournal.com 2008-06-19 03:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't even read that issue.
Like I need to know.
Feh.

[identity profile] gnomi.livejournal.com 2008-06-19 04:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Eh, most of my sweater patterns do the calculations for me, but I'm happy to have the math behind the pattern.

I only subscribed recently, but I've found some good stuff in there.

[identity profile] madknits.livejournal.com 2008-06-19 04:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I give it a cursory look. It's mostly stuff for gals.
I'm not famous for being a gal.

[identity profile] gnomi.livejournal.com 2008-06-19 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Relatedly, have you seen Son of Stitch and Bitch (http://www.amazon.com/Son-Stitch-Bitch-Projects-Crochet/dp/0761146172/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1213893991&sr=1-1)? I can bring my copy on Monday, if you haven't and want to take a look.

[identity profile] madknits.livejournal.com 2008-06-19 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I have it. I'm not too impressed. It's all stuff that is fashionable and chic NOW, nothing classic. Which is something I've noticed about all the patterns in her books.

I have it, but I don't think I'll use it much. I bought it to encourage publishers to print more books for knitted goodies for men.

[identity profile] gnomi.livejournal.com 2008-06-19 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I bought it for similar reasons, actually -- I have some good sweater patterns, but I was looking for inspirations for other knitted gifts for guys. I was, alas, somewhat disappointed in the overall offerings.

Patterns for overalls?

[identity profile] gnomi.livejournal.com 2008-06-20 12:58 pm (UTC)(link)
:-P

(who is this?)

[identity profile] 42itous.livejournal.com 2008-06-19 03:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, if only I could be bothered to do math!

I had a problem with the placement of my bust darts the other day*, and I fixed it by trial and error.

*on the pink dress that I did, in fact, finish.

[identity profile] gnomi.livejournal.com 2008-06-19 04:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay for finishing the dress!

Math is always helpful. ::nods sagely::

It took me three tries to realize that that phrase does not contain a verb.

[identity profile] gnomi.livejournal.com 2008-06-20 01:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. I had that problem when I first got the e-mail.

Then I saw who the sender was, and it made much more sense to me.
