Wallraff, the Atlantic Monthly columnist who writes the "Word Court" column, looks at word reference books - dictionaries, usage guides, and other, specialized reference books - and answers readers' questions about the proper uses of these books. For a dictionary- and word-reference-book-collector - as I am - this book is a treasure trove of book recommendations. And it's well written and humorous, as well.

This (http://www.jewfaq.org/holidayb.htm) is a nice, concise explanation of the Omer and the history behind the counting. It's somewhat obscure, so it doesn't surprise me that you haven't heard of it before.
