Reminder: New Postage Rates Begin Today

(or should that be "Hooray, hooray, the eleventh of May; new postal rates begin today"?)

The new pricing list is here.

For most people, the two that will have the most impact are:

-- First ounce first-class postage: 44 cents (was 42 cents)

-- Standard-size postcard postage: 28 cents (was, I believe, 26 cents)

Do you happen to know if "first-class postage" stamps bought for the last rate-change still work now? (Why, no, I don't send many letters... why do you ask?)

No. Forever stamps bought for the last rate change still work. "First class postage" stamps bought for the last rate change will require a two cent kicker stamp.

We're still using up all the Star Wars stamps I bought. I wonder how many other requests for 3ยข stamps they'll be getting.

I tried to sneak in under the wire and buy a bunch of "Forever Stamps" on Sunday but the Post Office had removed all three cash stamp machines from the unlocked vestibule area and the credit card machine would only sell me "42 cent stamps" (or smaller increments) not "Forever Stamps". Heh, they were on to me. Since I didn't want to be locked into stamps I'd have to add to (which I'm almost certain these would have been) I decided to wait.

Woohoo, the USPS has decided to honor my 35th birthday with a rate hike!

Happy birthday!
Would've been nice if USPS had honored your birthday with a rate change to your new age :-)
