Now It Can Be Shown

Tonight, [personal profile] mabfan and I delivered the penguin blanket to the family for whom it was knit.

And so, pictures.

Narf!

[identity profile] aunt-becca.livejournal.com 2008-02-05 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
make one for me, please?
I can't wait to see Eliana in it :)

[identity profile] gnomi.livejournal.com 2008-02-05 02:37 pm (UTC)(link)
It's significantly bigger than Eliana is right now; Daniel wore it briefly yesterday and Shira took a picture.

It's beautiful!!!!

I assume that these folks like penguins as much as you do?

[identity profile] gnomi.livejournal.com 2008-02-05 02:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you!

They're maybe not quite as fond as I am, but they do like penguins. And apparently there's a family story in the wife's side about her and penguins when she was about 4 or so.

Oh my gracious, that's hilariously adorable. Go you.

Thank you! It was a blast to knit.

::hehehehehehehehehe::

How perfectly wonderful!

[identity profile] gnomi.livejournal.com 2008-02-05 02:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! It was fun to do.

[identity profile] toonhead-npl.livejournal.com 2008-02-05 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
was it a family of penguins?

[identity profile] gnomi.livejournal.com 2008-02-05 02:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Penguins for penguins! Great idea! :-)

[identity profile] d2leddy.livejournal.com 2008-02-05 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
I'm scared

[identity profile] gnomi.livejournal.com 2008-02-05 02:50 pm (UTC)(link)
::sings::

Seasons don't fear the penguin
Nor do the wind, the sun or the rain..we can be like they are
Come on baby...don't fear the penguin

[identity profile] byrne.livejournal.com 2008-02-05 12:43 pm (UTC)(link)
EEE! That's the cutest thing ever

[identity profile] gnomi.livejournal.com 2008-02-05 02:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you!!

[identity profile] cbpotts.livejournal.com 2008-02-05 12:47 pm (UTC)(link)
That is amazing! You truly rock!

(I'm scared to ask how long that took you, but I really want to know (although if it is a secret, tell me in email)

[identity profile] gnomi.livejournal.com 2008-02-05 02:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you!!

I'm not sure exactly how long it took me, because I knit on the subway and while watching TV and while waiting in doctors' waiting rooms and... so, while I know I was knitting on it for about 2 months, I know it didn't take me that whole time. It's a fun pattern (which came free with some yarn from Patternworks) and is relatively straightforward.

[identity profile] introverte.livejournal.com 2008-02-05 12:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm impressed with all your blankets. I don't have the patience for all that simplicity. :-)

[identity profile] introverte.livejournal.com 2008-02-05 12:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Ack! Simplicity which in no way takes away from the beauty and accomplishment of the final product. (Runs off in search of caffeine to clear away the brain-cobwebs)

[identity profile] gnomi.livejournal.com 2008-02-05 02:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Caffeine is always good. Though if one drinks too much, one gets the shakes, and then it makes it harder to knit.

[identity profile] gnomi.livejournal.com 2008-02-05 02:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I like alternating simplicity and complexity. The fiddly bits of the TARDIS and the Dalek are offset by projects like this and the ducky sets and all.

[identity profile] introverte.livejournal.com 2008-02-05 03:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree with that principle. I like to have a "zen" knitting project going, that I can work on without thought, and a more complex one when I want to feel challenged.

[identity profile] gnomi.livejournal.com 2008-02-05 03:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup. I take the less-fiddly ones on the T, because I (a) don't want to get caught up in a complex pattern and miss my stop or (b) don't want to have to keep checking pattern notes while I'm on the train. Right now, for example, my traveling knitting project is a simple rolled-brim hat (http://www.knittingonthenet.com/patterns/hatrollbrim.htm).

[identity profile] half-double.livejournal.com 2008-02-05 03:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Hah! Every time I see that pattern, I think of you (well, first I think, "That blanket is so cool." Then I think of you). Should've known you'd be making it.

[identity profile] gnomi.livejournal.com 2008-02-05 03:56 pm (UTC)(link)
I bought a skein of the yarn it's free with just to get the pattern.

And then I didn't use that yarn to knit the penguin. :-)
