"I'm less visually observant than others, but I make up for it.... With cunning and guile."
My morning commute involves me taking the bus from Brookline, where MAB and I live, to Harvard Square. Traditionally, I leave the house at 6:45 and catch the bus between 6:50 and 6:55 (well, this is the 66. So those are expected times. Reality is frequently different). And usually I am not very awake when I get on the bus. This lack of awakeness increases my obliviousness to my surroundings.
"Leo, the Democrats aren't going to nominate another liberal, academic, former Governor from New England."
So it wasn't until he was getting off the bus that I noticed that the passenger sitting across from me was none other than our former Governor, and former Democratic presidental candidate, Michael Dukakis. This was not the first time I've encountered Mr. Dukakis on the bus; apparantly, during the span (from 1978-1982, I believe) between his terms as governor, Mr. Dukakis taught at Harvard (he now teaches at Northeastern). And while he was affiliated with Harvard, he found a barber in Harvard Square that he really liked. So now he returns to Harvard Square to get his hair cut. Why he chooses to do so at 7:00 AM is a mystery to me, however.
"Something's kinda freakish about you, you know that?"
