The last week or so has been more than a little crazy:
-- Friday 30 April: Guests for dinner. Much fun. Conversation into the late hours.
-- Shabbat 1 May: Guests for lunch. Great fun. Who can get more food on the floor, Muffin and Squeaker (at 9.5 months) or guests' son B (20 months)? It's a real toss-up; Muffin and Squeaker gave him a run for his money. And discovered they like chicken. And Cheerios. Together, even. Then, Aquapocolypse/Waterdammerung/H2OMG: robocall from town Board of Health 6:56 PM telling us not to drink the water or use it for handwashing/dishwashing. We were lucky, though -- bottled water in house for baby girls means bottled water in house. Water estimated to not come back for 2 weeks.
-- Sunday 2 May: Boil-water order still in effect. Attend book launch party for friend's new book.
lcmlc and Abba, who live outside the waterless zone, bring in 10 gallon-size bottles of water plus three flats of 24 1/2-liter bottles and dinner. Is evening of much fun. Estimates now that water might be back by Friday, if we're lucky.
-- Monday 3 May: Work. Still under boil-water order. Beginning to expect descent of horde of pregnant women out of movies to use all this boiled water. Biggest challenge is washing baby bottles without wasting too much of the boiled water. Freelance work. Deliver freebie handouts to campaign volunteers for Tuesday's election. Acquire extra water just in case estimate of return of water on Friday turns out not to be correct. Put babies to bed as
mabfan and a friend distribute Burstein for Library Trustee signs around to polling places in town.
-- Tuesday 4 May, Election Day: Early-morning notification that water is back. Celebrate by running hot water for 15 minutes to clear the tank. Work from home due to election day. For a break, go and campaign at two different polling places, one in the home precinct of the challenger most likely to get the fourth seat (spoilers alert: she did). After work, take babies out (through brief but drenching rain) to our home polling place to be cute and convince people to Vote for Daddy! Home again, prepare for victory party (translation: take ice cream cake out of freezer). Call Town Hall to find out that
mabfan has won his seat again. Celebrate victory with
mabfan and
arib.
-- Wednesday 5 May: Work. Finally get a chance to do baby laundry. Attempt to contact parents in late evening, find that
lcmlc is at emergency room at local-to-her hospital (spoiler alert: she's fine). Try to balance worry with juggling sleepy children. Get babies to sleep, talk to
lcmlc who is hoping to get home before morning.
-- Thursday 6 May: Work from home due to ride's daughter being ill. Talk to
lcmlc and Abba and find out they didn't get home from hospital until 5:15 AM. I, too, was awake around that time due to Squeakerness, but I did not think to call parents. Probably a good thing, too. Discover at Post Office that, due to construction, they've moved our PO box (physically. Still same number, but located across PO lobby from its previous location). In evening, see Gondoliers. Have great time at show.
-- Friday 7 May: Work. Prepare for Shabbat. Ponder what to do about possible diaper problems. Return recalled Infant Tylenol.
-- Shabbat 8 May: Sleep the sleep of the constantly-woken-by-Squeaker. Discover in morning that it's pouring rain. No shul for us. More resting, as permitted by Muffin and Squeaker.
-- Sunday 9 May, Mother's Day: Lovely day -- brunch out with
mabfan, Muffin, and Squeaker (babies are *amazingly* well behaved in restaurant). Visit with random friends as we run into them on Harvard St. Quick errands. Visit (briefly) with various other friends who come to pick stuff up. Watch episodes of season 3 of "Bones" (
mabfan and I are working our way through the DVDs). Make milkshakes (first hunting down blender, which had not been seen since before Pesach). Watch "The Amazing Race 16" finale (disappointed by winner, but not horribly). Talk to far-away friends about TAR finale.
