Among other problems, it shouldn't have been the same clerk who made the mistake who did the cash out, in case it was an on-purpose mistake.
That's sucktastic customer service. And the amount of business they just lost from those who don't have to worry about hechshers is going to come to way more than $10.
If they are completely hamstrung in terms of giving you cash because they are all a slave to the computer and policies they didn't write, they could at least have offered you $10 worth of ice cream or gift certificates.
