Scene: [personal profile] mabfan is changing Muffin for bed. Muffin is jabbering nonsense syllables.

Muffin: Magaba gabaga! Shaka!

[personal profile] gnomi: When the walls fell!

[personal profile] mabfan: I was going to say that.

Clearly, we've gotten Muffin and Squeaker well on the way to Science Fiction Geekdom; Squeaker showed her geek cred months ago.

There's a fun little webcomic that discusses children and geek cred: http://www.complexactions.com/archive/109.shtml

The week after that episode aired, I was watching a movie at LSC at MIT. The students do the film projection, and often things go awry, with the projectionist not getting a reel changed quickly enough so that there's a pause, or other things. It's part of the fun, and when it happens, someone in the crowd yells "LSC..." and the entire crowd responds "SUCKS!"

Some projectionists were less adept than others of course, and on this night, it was a guy named Vipul, who still hadn't gotten the hang of everything, after I think rather a long time doing it. As expected, something went wrong, and there was the "LSC..." "SUCKS!" call-and-response. And then someone in the audience intoned, "Vipul, in the projection booth." And this being MIT, pretty much everyone had just seen the episode and knew the reference, and there was much cackling.
