So, a couple of weeks ago, some of my classmates in the class I'm taking had a chemistry test they were studying for (they were quizzing each other before our class started). Last night, I finally remembered to ask one of them how the test went. Well, he said, he got a base grade of a C. And then there was a grade curve, which brought him up to a B-. And then, he said, Mr. Cunningham pushed everyone's grade up a bit more, so he (my classmate) ended up with a B.

"Wait," I said. "This teacher, Mr. Cunningham...is he, like, older than the hills?"

"Yes," my classmate responded. "He's really old."

"I think I had him when I was in high school," I said. "Not only that, he was my mother's 10th-grade homeroom teacher at Malden High School."

So I sent my classmate back to his next chemistry class with greetings from me to Mr. Cunningham. :-)

Small, small world.

Holy cow! Mr. Cunningham's still kicking around?

Apparently so. I was astounded (since I know he was at least of teacher-age when my mother was in high school). But it sounds like it's the same Mr. Cunningham.

Time to check his clothes for a concealed sword pocket?

In the end, there can be only one Chemistry teacher? :-)

Yike! He seemed to be in his 50s 20 years ago... maybe we should ask which chemicals he's using?

You know, in the real world, people graduate high school, go to college, and live far far away from their home! ;-)

Heh. You're right -- he might be well preserved!

Uh...I figured that after going 6,000 miles away, it was time to come back.

The factor you're missing (because Nomi didn't mention it) is that she attended Maimonides, but the Drivers Ed class she's taking now is with a group of students at Brookline High. Mr. Cunningham basically taught at three different schools -- Malden, Maimonides, and Brookline -- and it's an incredible coincidence that she keeps running into him (or people who are in his class).
