From this article on the Conclave that will choose the new Pope:

"In 1243, the Senate and people of Rome broke a year-and-a-half deadlock by locking the cardinals until they finally elected a new pope. In 1271, the cardinals were not only locked up, but were put on a diet of bread and water until they could agree."

Can we apply this to WSFS or SFWA business meetings?

Just wondering. :-)

I think we should worry. On a 60 Minutes segment last night, a Vatican official was saying that this time, the Cardinals were being provided with much better accommodations than the last time. No! Let them sleep on straw pallets, and have naught but day-old bread and tepid water! We'd have a new pope inside of 48 hours!

Well, nowadays it's a sliding scale. The longer you take, the less stuff you get. If they dicker around long enough, they will be down to just bread and water once a day. It just takes a week or so to get there. Long enough, and they'll be allowed to use just a simple majority. I don't think it'll get to that, however.

Not that I'm handicapping this or anything.
