Mid-Vacation Yay!/Boo!
Jul. 20th, 2005 11:04 pmA condensed version of our vacation so far:
We got to New York safely on Sunday -- Yay!
Just as the rain started pouring down -- Boo!
But we caught a cab quickly -- Yay!
And the rain stopped as we arrived at the house -- Yay!
Saw family over dinner -- Yay!
But we were somewhat brain-fried -- Boo!
Monday we went on a walking tour of Central Park -- Yay!
...in 90-degree-plus, humid weather -- Boo!
And then went to a Starbucks afterwards where we found air conditioning and cold drinks -- Yay!
We had dinner with friends -- Yay!
Who know a remarkable number of people on my friends list -- Yay! but surprising, to some extent
And got a subway relatively quickly -- Yay!
But we've encountered a number of un-air-conditioned subway cars -- Boo!
On Tuesday, we had lunch with an editor -- Yay!
To whom I still owe an article I never really pitched -- Boo!
But lunch was productive -- Yay!
And then we went to the New-York Historical Society -- Yay!
Which only had out-of-date literature about the current exhibits -- Boo!
But we found our way around OK anyway -- Yay!
And then we had tasty Morrocan food with lovely friends -- Yay!
This morning, my glasses broke -- Boo!
But I'd packed my contact lenses, just in case -- Yay!
(side note -- I learned to do this after the Boskone of the Seeing-Eye Husband)
I didn't have any sunglasses with me -- Boo!
But there's a pharmacy on the corner, so I was set within about ten minutes -- Yay!
Once I was able to see, we headed to meet some friends downtown -- Yay!
But we visited with them only a brief time -- Boo!
But that was because we had other friends to meet uptown -- Yay!
And we had a lovely lunch and a lovely trip to the Jewish Museum -- Yay!
Followed by a lovely dinner with a cousin -- Yay!
And then back to Queens -- Yay!
And I've actually gotten some stuff written during the trip -- Yay!
So, in all, a very "Yay!" trip.
Tomorrow, we have an early lunch with yet another friend, then a walking tour of the Brooklyn Bridge and Brooklyn Heights, followed by dinner with a friend from college whom I haven't seen in a very long time.
(and, yes -- a lot of folks we're seeing this week are on LJ and are on my friends list, but I'm leaving everyone anonymous 'cause I'm sleepy)
For
mabfan's perspective on the trip so far, go here.

Date: 2005-07-22 02:09 am (UTC)I used to figure that for short, near-home trips, I didn't need to bring a spare pair. Then, after my glasses broke at a Boskone, I decided to pack them always.
