I'm a member of the Jewish Vocational Service's Jewish Women's Mentoring Network. And I got mail from them this morning that prompted a session of Yay!/Boo!:

-- They're having a one-night workshop, "Stressed Out! Managing Job Search Tension," on 19 September that's only $15. Yay!
-- It's at the Newton JCC, which isn't all that T-accessible. Boo!
-- They're also about to start a six-week Success Team program for networking. Yay!
-- The first two sessions are on the second day of Sukkot and Simchat Torah, respectively. Boo!

Which leads me to my poll:

Hee! Thanks!

I just made it yesterday, in fact.

Of course you should tackle them about the date. Clearly someone hasn't been thinking.

While I totally understand not viewing the second days of each as a full holy-day, this is just sending a message I'm not sure they want to send. I would imaging they were looking at it in purely a calendar sense and not in a religious sense but they should be informed by someone who is affected and cares about both issues. You are a wonderful choice to do this :).

Tell 'em. They should have noticed, even if the state government didn't when they said "hey, we'll make a two day tax holiday so observant Jews can shop on Sunday" ... Tisha B'av.

Sunday tax free

Yeah, shopping for large-ticket items while hungry.... not going to happen.

You should come, and then we should meet up somewhere in Newton for snacks. I live nearby, and could give you a ride to the workshop from Newton Center or wherever, if you want.

Oftentimes these dates are hard to change. I'd recommend that you call them to recommend ways to avoid such future conflicts (e.g. add Jewish Holidays to Outlook or consult your favorite [livejournal.com profile] gnomi).

One time I was informed of a mandatory Discrimination and Harrassment Awareness Program. This mandatory program was scheduled for Yom Kipur. Complaining didn't change the date or get them to provide an alternate date. All I can hope for is that it influenced future planning.

G'luck!

A Jewish organization shouldn't be scheduling things on Jewish holidays.

Sorry, off topic

What I wanted to ask you was about your knitting. A while ago you had a knitting project you asked us in LJ about - I think it was a knitted stuffed animal. Did you ever start that or is it something you are planning to do? Just wondering.

I cast on the aligator's belly, but then I got distracted knitting various baby gifts for various friends. I'm almost done with those, though, so then I'm going to go back to the aligator.
