Newbury Comics, a comic book shop (well, they started out as a comics shop; they're now a lots-of-stuff shop) in my area, is running an ad on WFNX about the various last-minute gifts you can get there. So they list CDs, DVDs, etc., and then the chickwoman doing the ad says, "...or a big plastic penguin!" As if a big plastic penguin is the sort of thing you'd go into a comics/CD/DVD shop automatically assuming they'd have.

the one in the garage in harvard square used to have a bunch of big plastic penguins standing in a group by the front door, like in a penguin huddle. it looked like they were plotting world domination. :D

i haven't heard that ad yet. cute! (and actually yes, i would assume newbury comics would have them. they sell other kinds of weird stuff.... i bought [livejournal.com profile] interlock a pair of purple wings there once.)

Made me think of this (paragraph 4).

That was delightfully odd. Thanks for pointing me to it.

Nothing to say, but I'm offering this icon (and Pensock) to the cause of Penguin World Domination.

Oh, not that I wouldn't assume Newbury Comics wouldn't carry giant plastic penguins, but there seemed to be an assumption that giant plastic penguins were something one would look for at any comics shop.

They carry an eclectic selection, indeed. Almost as good as the old Spencer Gifts in the Burlington Mall from when I was younger.

you mean your local comics/cd/dvd shop DOESN'T carry giant plastic penguins? O.O what's wrong with them?

*ahem*

They also had the Darth Tater Mr. Potato Head.

Newbury Comics has lots of cool stuff. I'm always amused by their eclectic stock when I wander in there.

I loved the idea of Darth Tater; I never managed to get my hands on one, alas.

And, because somehow the penguins didn't make it onto the icon, here are some penguins. :-)

were they standing about plotting the take over of the world one herring at a time? This is what I want to know

They just might have been. But it would have to have been only the younger penguins, as some of the older ones were hard of herring.

Well, given the assorted odd things they have scattered around the store, it wouldn't surprise me...

Apropros of not much, it occurs to me that you might enjoy this. (If the name sounds familiar but you can't place it... remember "the stray kitten"?) :-)

It does look like a book I will need to read. PENGUIN as a secret agency appeals to me in too many ways for me not to find this book.

Glad it's appealing... hope you like it!
