Grumble, grumble, grumble
Jul. 25th, 2002 11:26 amSo (there's that so again; I've gotta come up with a new intro word) MAB and I were discussing the fact (mentioned in one of yesterday's ramblings) that Rob Lowe is leaving WW, and we came up with someone we thought was the perfect replacement - right level of nerdiness and earnestness (and - at least to me - the right level of cute, but a different type of cute from Rob Lowe) - to play the new Head Speechwriter/Deputy Communications Director: Josh Malina (http://us.imdb.com/Name?Malina,+Joshua), who was Jeremy on "Sports Night" and played David, Sydney's assistant, in "The American President" (a wonderful movie. If you haven't ever seen this film, what the heck are you waiting for? Go rent it. Go! Now! I'll wait here 'til you come back...dum-de-dum-de-dum).
I felt the desire to share the idea with one of the West Wing-related lists I'm on. And the first post I got back was from someone on the list saying (and this is a direct quote) "Gee, poor Rob's body isn't even cold yet."
As I said to a friend in response, what - did I miss a memo? I thought that speculation about who would take over the role was a reasonable response to Rob Lowe's business decision to leave the part of Sam Seaborn. The actor's not dead! His career might be, but that's another issue (mind you, I didn't really like Rob Lowe as an actor until "West Wing," and I think a lot of why I like him now is a credit to Sorkin's writing ability).
Therefore, grumble, grumble, grumble. I'll get over it, I know, but y'know - give people the right to have opinions, huh?

Date: 2002-07-25 08:59 am (UTC)You know, if you had said he was David in American President a few months ago, I would have instantly know who he was. Sigh.
And you know, I was thinking about this more. I'm not sure why he thinks he deserves more money. It's not like the ensemble part of the cast isn't all getting about the same amount of screen time, etc. It seems reasonable to me that he should be making the same amount of money as BW, AJ, RS, JS. And, um, hello, doesn't he have a contract?
But as for that comment -- remember who the hell made it. She's such a negative Nellie she really isn't worth the effort. If I let her get to me, I wouldn't be writing S/J anymore. She's entitled to her opinion, but her opinion is wrong, therefore not worth listening to.

so...
Date: 2002-07-25 10:48 am (UTC)speculation is part of what fandom is all about! i've always felt a little wierd about rob lowe myself...seems he thinks he's hot stuff. whatever.
anyway, (see...there i go again) don't let anyone discourage you from rampant speculation! :)
Those people are deeply disturbed
Date: 2002-07-25 06:05 pm (UTC)I liked Rob Lowe before the West Wing, but not a lot, and I thought that at least some of the improvement in his acting was, well, because he'd gotten his act together, but I'm really an optimist at heart at times. *g*
I may have to leave Sam_n_Josh, but I only joined because Beth told me it was a cool place, so no big deal. I'll stay on WWSFF, because I just might someday finish another Clayton Webb/Danny Concannon story or that Josh/Clayton Webb one some people want, and I'd like to torture them with it. *eg* I am an evil bitch at times. I'm also a tired, babbling, happy person, which is fun to be.
Some of this might even make sense. I hope so. :-)
