A very non-touristy day
Aug. 7th, 2002 10:17 pmWe had another very busy day, but today we did extremely non-touristy things. We left around 10:15 this morning and headed to lower Manhattan for an appointment at the New York field office of the FBI, where MAB and I had a meeting with the information officer (MAB is writing a story that involves an FBI agent and he wanted some details for verisimilitude). We were with him until close to 2 PM, at which point we were on a quest for food. We ended up at a falafel and other Middle Eastern food joint near the federal building (and, as it turns out, within blocks of Ground Zero) and had a lovely lunch. Having satisfied our hunger, we headed back uptown to visit yet another of our friends at his his office, and we spent over an hour with him. We stopped by another friend's office briefly, and then we headed to meet a friend uptown for dinner.
Dinner was quite a long affair, but it was much fun, filled with much laughter. We spent close to 3 hours eating and catching up and just generally shmoozing. At 9:00, we finally parted ways, with our friend heading back toward the east side and MAB and me heading back to Queens.
We're leaving tomorrow, so the next entry from me will most likely be the "we're home and fine" post.
Oh, yeah - one last thing: we were just channel surfing and came across a Denny's commercial (in Spanish) featuring Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy. MAB turns to me and says, "wait, doesn't that plate have bacon on it? That's slightly disturbing." I couldn't argue with his logic. :-)
