Idioms in other languages

I've been thinking recently about idioms and how they translate or don't translate. The idea of translating English idioms into other languages - things like "raining cats and dogs," "that's the way the cookie crumbles," and so forth - has been discussed in many fora. But I was thinking about going the opposite way - translating foreign idioms into English and how little sense they'd make. For instance, there's a Hebrew idiom meaning "that's the crux of the issue." The Hebrew is "po kavur ha kelev," or "here is where the dog is buried." So I'm looking for other phrases from lanugages other than English - what the phrase is, how it would translate literally, and what the idiom means
