Having a love-hate relationship with FrameMaker 10 right now. I love the program. I'm just hating building these templates. Please, chapters, *please* number correctly.

(If anyone out there can help me wrangle these templates, I'd really appreciate it. I *thought* I understood what was going on, but no such luck.)

Considering wireless printers. There seem to be a number of available options from good brands (Canon, HP, Epson, Brother, Lexmark) at under $100. Anyone have recommendations or, alternatively, anti-recommendations? We need one that's compatible with Apple products (not just the laptops but also iPad and iPhone).

(also asked on Sefer HaPanim*, so if you answered there, ignore this.)

For those of you who usually send me e-mail at my [firstnamelastname] domain, please cease using this address until further notice. The domain expired without my knowledge (I never received any notification it was about to expire), and while I was able to renew it (it only expired a couple of days ago), it will take a couple of days to get things up and running again. I can always be reached through my @livejournal address, so if you don't have another means of contacting me, that's a safe one to use.

ETA: It's back up; all is well. One can return to e-mailing me at the previous address.

-- We're having what I've termed "snizzle": could be snow, could be drizzle.

-- Due to the weather, many of my coworkers chose to work from home. Because of them and the coworkers traveling for various reasons, the office is really quiet today, to the point that I was the first one in the office today.

-- I have discovered some games for my phone that are addictive (Ticket to Ride, Where's My Water?). I am now looking for people to play Ticket to Ride with.

-- A fanfic project I've been pondering for a while just became both easier and harder due to a casting spoiler. ::ponders some more::

-- We have achieved Purim costumes for Muffin and Squeaker. Tried them on last night, and they were adorable.

-- Speaking of Purim, this year I thought ahead and got mishloach manot items at BJ's when I last went. I just need a couple of items and we can assemble them.

-- Speaking of assembling, check out the new Avengers trailer from Marvel UK. It's really cool.

-- Today's date makes me think I should be humming Sousa music all day. So does Sunday's date.

-- It's 1 March and already my grocery store has put out Passover food. This is ridiculous.

-- With the warmer-than-usual weather we've been having, the trees are confused and some of them are budding. So, of course, I'm having my annual Spring allergy attack. Spring allergy attacks should *not* start in February.

-- It's Thursday, and I have no clue what I'm making for Shabbat.

Can anyone suggest real-time video capture software for the Mac that is either (a)free or (b) inexpensive? I have been asked to look into making some videos of how to use a specific software package, and something that can capture video of what I'm doing while I do it is what I'm looking for.

Any suggestions are very much appreciated.

-- I have Thinky Thoughts about last night's "Glee." Not all of them are charitable.

-- Are cranky questions "kvetchstions"? And are cranky messages "kvetchsages"?

-- How did it get to be a week before Chanukah already?

-- MP3s are the friend of the modern leiner. I'm just saying.

-- Happy Monkey Day!

-- It's gotten sufficiently colder that I've needed to dig out my leggings. Finally getting winterish weather is seasonally appropriate, but it means I need to look for such things as gloves and scarves and sweaters.

-- This past weekend, Muffin and Squeaker had play dates with the daughters of friends of ours on Friday night, then with the kids of the rabbi and rebbetzin on Shabbat, and then with their local cousin on Sunday. [personal profile] mabfan and I were pleased how well they interacted with all the other kids, many of whom are older than Muffin and Squeaker.

Can't wait to indication now available as an iPhone app and you can download it for me I can I create this post isn't cutting it which not going because it didn't last couple times I used to think I can dictate

(what I actually said was that Dragon Dictate is now available as an iPhone app and you can download it for free. In fact, I dictated this post but it might not know its name because it didn't the last couple of times I used Dragon Dictate.)

It's available from the app store.

Thanks to [personal profile] mabfan for telling me about the app!

Because their iPhone app is so brilliant. Free for a limited time, they say.

(They use the name "Email 'n Walk." They've got smart quotes turned on, so their apostrophe is upside-down. Also, they should have apostrophes on both sides of the n. I also would prefer they use a dash in "E-mail," but that's a matter for style guides to fight out.)

(Thanks to Universal Hub for the heads-up.)

What do you do with a broken cell phone?
What do you do with a broken cell phone
Earl-eye in the morning?

(oh, and in searching for "silly" in the picklist, I find that once I used "spaghetti" as a mood descriptor.)

ETA: Thanks to everyone who made serious suggestions, but I was actually more thinking sea chanties than I was thinking practical solutions. I'm already pretty sure I'm donating it to somewhere that fixes them or mines them for parts and then donates them.

This morning, I started to open my cell phone to make a call, and the phone broke into two lovely pieces. I was able to get them back together so that the phone does still work, but I don't trust it to not break again. [personal profile] mabfan has been advocating for iPhones, and, in fact, is conducting a poll.

Please go vote! Tell us what to do!

I'm looking to get a microphone that is compatible with my Mac. I'm thinking of this one, of which I've heard good things, but I don't want to settle for it just because it's inexpensive. Does anyone know anything about the Logitech mic? Or can anyone recommend a different one that's good and, say, $100 or under?

Last night I tried something I've never tried before -- recording a story as podfic (not one of my own stories). I've been thinking about doing this for a bit, but I couldn't figure out the technical logistics of it, having neither Garage Band (since, while we have iLife, I haven't installed it due to significant lack of hard drive space) nor a good microphone (though we've been talking about getting one).

But then it hit me. I have a handy-dandy tape recorder and a spiffy little toy that allows me to make digital files from cassettes. So last night -- allergy attack and all -- I sat down to do maybe a paragraph or two to see how it came out. And I got swept away with reading the story, so I ended up doing almost the whole thing (I have maybe a screen's worth left to read). Mind you, I haven't *listened* to any of it yet (I'm vaguely frightened of hearing what I sound like). But I made a decision when I started reading: I'd read straight, leaving in all errors and the places where I went back and started a paragraph/sentence over again. I can always clip the errors out when I put it into the machine (the software that came with my toy allows that).

Of course, day 1 of Annual Horrible Allergy Attack was probably not the *best* time to do it, but I figure that, if I can do it when I sound like I'm storing a family of wombats in my nose, it'll be even better when I'm *not* congested.

[personal profile] mabfan and I are looking to buy a scanner. We'd love to get one that also can be a fax machine. But we don't know what are the best ones, so we figured we'd ask here. Our current technological parameters are:

-- Needs to connect to a Mac iBook G4 running Tiger (OS 10.4)
-- Needs to be able to produce good-quality digital renditions from color and black-and-white photographs

So? Suggestions?
