Honestly, I really have nothing against Cornell

Last night, mabfan and I were watching the 6:30 national news, and they were reporting on the Moussaoui jury's verdict that Moussaoui was "eligible for the death penalty." The following conversation ensued:

mabfan: I don't like that phrasing, "eligible for the death penalty." It sounds like...
gnomi: ...like he got into college or something.
mabfan: Yes. Exactly.
gnomi: But, well, death college.
gnomi: Like, Cornell.

depends on where the death is coming from, environment or academics.
IMHO, SUNY binghamton's worse than cornell. at least cornell has a few pretty buildings to look at. SUNY-b's all bleak and drab and gray.

When I visited Cornell for potential grad school (and got snowed in, and *made* the Conservative minyan) (there was no Orthodox one), I was told by one grad student whose lab I visited that there were a couple of things to do at Cornell: drink, drugs, dissertation, and (not to break with the d's) commit suicide. There are a couple of favored locations on campus, apparently.
