Yesterday, I got together with my monthly sewing circle, and one of the subjects that came up was how the Christmas shopping season keeps getting longer and longer. All of us (and I'm the youngest of the crowd) remember when Thanksgiving marked the beginning of the holiday shopping season, but now it seems to begin at Halloween or even earlier.

At the same time, however, I've already begun to think about the Channukah gifts I have to buy. But I've got a good excuse - Channukah this year starts the Friday night following Thanksgiving (30 November), just about as early as it possibly can (next year, however, it'll be more in sync with what we anticipate, falling near the end of December). So I've been thinking a bit about Channukah shopping and what we should get for whom.

One of the four new CDs I got in the mail over the weekend was an a capella CD heavy on the Channukah music, so now I'm getting into the Channukah spirit (no, that doesn't mean that I'm feeling like I should start a rebellion, with the small and weak overthrowing the larger and stronger army). But it's the 6th of Kislev, and Channukah starts in 19 days, so it makes some sense that I'd be thinking about it already.
