Catching-Up Rambly Bits
Jul. 6th, 2006 09:49 am...some of which may get their own individual entries eventually:
-- I have a new digital camera, a Canon PowerShot A530. When I went to buy the camera, I'd been planning on getting the A430. But after the woman at Hunt's Photo (formerly Hunt's Drug, but not the one in Melrose, the one in Harvard Square) heard that I was used to a Minolta X-370 film camera, she recommended the A530, because it had the manual capability that the X-370 has. And since the price wasn't all that much higher than that of the A430, I went with it.
-- We had a great time in New York, seeing all sorts of fine folk. We missed seeing other fine folk, so maybe next time we're in the city we can make that work. We did another Big Onion walking tour, and this time I didn't get a sunburn.
-- This weekend is Readercon, another local science fiction convention. I hope to see any of you out there who are going.
-- Now that I have the aforementioned camera, I hope to take more photos and share them with folks. I've got knitting projects that I should photograph, plus some other random stuff. Including a sign in Allston that I've been wanting to photograph for years. So I should get on that. :-)
-- Right before we left for New York,
mabfan and I had dinner with the lovely
farwing and the lovely and visiting-from-out-of-town
suzvoy. Among the local sites we showed
suzvoy were the house John F. Kennedy was born in and a plaque near our local Barnes & Noble noting that the building that the B&N now occupies was the location of a CIC office during World War II.
-- We watched more Stargate: SG-1 on the train trips to and from NYC. We're now approaching the end of Season 3. It's interesting to be watching the earlier seasons having watched Season 9 in its entirety already. I'm noticing things that set the stage for later developments, and I wonder if they were deliberate or not.
