...in which I admit my love for 80s pop music.

Last night, I was finishing reading the newest Entertainment Weekly, and I discovered that in the music section they had a small bit on the reissue of the Rick Springfield album (now CD) "Working Class Dog." That reminded me that I hadn't listened to the Rick Springfield CDs I have in my cube. So now I'm sitting here, chair-dancing to occasionally-pure-cheese-but-still-enjoyable Rick Springfield songs I remember fondly from my teenage years.

Listening to Rick Springfield always reminds me of my friend Anna, with whom I was very close all through high school but of whom I've since lost track, and makes me wonder what she's up to. Anna and I were kind of destined to meet and be friends, I've always felt. When my parents brought me to her house that first fall we knew each other (for her 15th birthday party, maybe?), since they'd never met her mother, they decided to come in and say hello. About 10 minutes into their conversation, it was discovered that my dad had dated Anna's mom when they were both in college. Small world, indeed.

So now I'm sitting here in my cube, hoping the cube-neighbors will be understanding if they catch me mid-chair-boogie. 'Cause I can't sit completely still while listening to this stuff.

I took my daughter to see Rick Springfield when he played at Jones Beach on year, and fell seriously in lust with him. He's the one man I would have run away with in a NYC minute. *g*

Oddly enough, I was just watching him the other night while copying Nick Knight to DVD. He was so cute, nuking blood for his dinner.

He's adorable, even now. He's aged well, he has. I saw him last on "The Colbert Report" back in December (http://www.tv.com/the-colbert-report/richard-clarke/episode/533273/recap.html).

Yeah, I agree that many of Rick Springfield's songs were a bit cheesy, but he always seemed to heve his head on straight about who he was in the bigger picture. The one song of his that I like, "Bruce", kind of illustrates that.

Alas, "Bruce" isn't on this collection, though I remember the song fondly.

And yeah -- he always seemed to know where he stood in the grand scheme. He even has been known to make fun of himself, which is always a good sign.

I don't buy many cd's, but one I do own is the "13 going on 30" soundtrack. Jessie's Girl is one of the songs on that album and not coincidentally, is on my frequently played list on my pda/mp3 player.
