So, yesterday, [personal profile] mabfan and I headed to Connecticut to see some relatives of mine (these relatives are the family of my father's stepmother. Confused yet?). And we were heading down the Mass. Turnpike extension (since we live right near the Allston/Brighton exit) toward the main part of the Pike. But there's a bit there where the numbering gets all weird with the exits, so I wanted to warn [personal profile] mabfan. This resulted in the following conversation.

[personal profile] gnomi: So, coming up, watch out for Exit 14-slash-Exit 15.

[personal profile] mabfan: Wait, someone's writing Mass Pike slash fic?

[personal profile] gnomi: ::giggles::

[personal profile] mabfan: Hot Exit-14-on-Exit-15 action!

Talk about reading between the lanes...

*He didn't care about the consequences. He just wanted some hot asphalt and he wanted it now...*

(This may, indeed, be funnier in my head than irl, but hooray for you! I'll share it anyway!)

*grins*

You'd be amazed how often things don't translate well. At least I'm amused most of the time.

My Michael and I never miss the chance, when we're travelling on NYS I-87 and passing the exit for Selkirk, to shout back at it, "Buy Spock!"

OT, someone with your husband's name is the president of the Society to Keep Pluto as a Planet, or something - is it him?

Yes, indeedy. He is the president of the Society for Preservation of Pluto as a Planet.

His name was in the Washington Post Express today - that is the free commuter pub from the Post - looks like an Associated Press story. What a kick! :)

It's one of our major thoroughfares around here. You were out in the western part of the state, right?

yep! drove from the Hartford, CT airport up to North Adams, once by taking the Mass Pike to Lee and going up through the south entrance to Mount Greylock state park, and once by taking 91 up to 2 and across to North Adams (and then down from the north to drop Bill back at Mount Greylock, after a short jaunt up to Vermont).

MA really isn't a very tall state, compared to the western states I'm more accustomed to.

This is one of those tiny little states. I mean, we drive 4 hours, and we're 2 states over (driving 4 hours, we can be in NY). Whereas in other states in the Union, you can drive 4 hours and still be in the same region of the state.

Down here it's New Jersey Turnpike/Garden State Parkway OTP!

Or should that be NJT/95? Hard to say.

Date: 2006-08-28 07:40 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] gnomi.livejournal.com
Of course, then people might wonder whether the Garden State is being cheated on. And a whole schism could pop up in the fandom, between the NJT/GSP shippers and the NJT/95 shippers, and...

OK, maybe I overthink sometimes. :-)

Well, I95 does go through so many states...and intersects with so many other highways...Good lord, it's a veritable scoundrel!

Hee!

I am much amused given the thread.

I didn't know anyone actually referred to the bits inside 128 as the "extension" in real life. Cute!

I picked up the terminology listening to the traffic reports as a kid (from Kevin O'Keefe "in the News Radio 59 'copter," to give you an idea of how long ago this was). I don't know what else to call it. :-)
