...mostly because I'm having a two-dwarf morning (Sleepy and Dopey) today.

You shouldn't make polls before finishing your morning coffee.

Oh! That's horrible!

I bow in awe to you, the superior punster of the day.

Actually, it makes me think of various alternate lifestyles and religions; I didn't even know there was a Communist origin to the term. I usually hear it used by the same people who use Grok.

It didn't exactly have a "Communist origin"; it was an accusation made against people who were supposedly sympathetic to Communists. I haven't heard it much since 1970.

"fellow traveler" = new-agey sort of "fellow traveler on the path of life" (or possibly spirituality or particular Buddhist path or some such). give or take.

I need an "other" for "Fellow Traveler."

It makes me think of space travel. Particularly big space liners.

actually, since i'm supposed to be transcribing it, "fellow traveler" makes me think "phantom traveler," ie supernatural episode 4. and then i picture dean winchester humming metallica to calm himself down.

but i ticked "person in the passenger seat" because that's what i'd be thinking if i wasn't a "supernatural has eaten my head" kind of fangirl. *cough*

"Fellow traveler" makes me think of Communists, but it also makes me chain off that to think of shiny round beepy things in orbit, so it's okay. Sadly, I know of no type of spacecraft designated "Useful idiot."

Given your choices, I pick Communist. I use it as a derivative of that usage, but applied towards other stuff. For example, one can be a SCAdian fellow traveller...

I use "Wilbury" as a verb, sometimes, so I certainly haven't forgotten them.
