-- [personal profile] dpolicar and I were talking yesterday, and he used the word "talky." I then, in response, used the word "thinky." While my boss, who witnessed this conversation, had no apparent problem with "talky," she snarked at me for the use of "thinky." Despite this, [personal profile] dpolicar knew exactly what I meant by "thinky."

-- I need more blouses appropriate for fall weather. I hate clothing shopping. This is a dilemma of overwhelming proportions.

-- This has been running through my head since some time yesterday morning. And I don't think it's connected with any brainfolk (though it could be Avi). Caused by reading about current events? Possible YJ flashback? Who knows. It's an obscure song from an obscure Israeli movie.

-- Either the Saint Louis major league baseball team or the Arizona NFL team has to change its name to the Ordinals. I'm just saying.

-- So, so looking forward to having an actual weekend this weekend.

-- I knit almost a whole pair of socks -- I had a completed sock and all but 2 inches of the foot of the second before I had to start the toe decreases done -- but then I set that project aside and didn't pick it up again for almost 2 years. This, to me, said that the yarn really, really didn't want to be socks. So I frogged the socks and am reknitting the yarn into gloves. I've finished the first and am now working on the second. I think the yarn is happier being gloves.

-- This weekend is the Head of the Charles Regatta. I'm planning to stay as far away from the river as possible.

-- A conversation with [profile] beths_stanley prompted me to check out Usenet posts of mine at groups.google.com, especially in a group I was particularly active in back in the 90s. Wacky-freaky experience, but to some extent it made me nostalgic.

-- I may be guilty of rampant abuse of little yellow sticky notes. I blame [personal profile] byrne and [personal profile] tygerseye.

i need more fall/winter pants.... i hate clothes shopping too. also i think i too might have to avoid harvard square and environs.... columbus day weekend they had some street fair or other and i walked out of the t and OMG SO MANY PEOPLE. O.O unless the weather's nice, then i might go watch....

i love that your solution to the unfinished socks is "well, i guess the yarn didn't want to be socks after all...." probably better this way - you shouldn't have unhappy socks.

Last year, the Friday of the Head of the Charles weekend, we were headed to [personal profile] magid's for Shabbat. We were taking the 66 bus, and we got caught in the tourist mob of traffic associated with those coming in for the race. So this year, I'm planning to just completely avoid the whole area from, say, 7:30 Friday morning until about 7:30 Monday morning.

I figure if I avoided that sock (and those 2 inches of knitting, which really is nothing when you're that close to the end of the project) for 2 years, clearly I wasn't supposed to make those socks. Happy yarn doesn't split, doesn't have as many dropped stitches. Grumpy yarn is cranky yarn.

I share your dilemma of needing blouses for fall, ad the two decades I've spent working retail have not eased my loathing of malls.

Catalog shopping has saved my sanity. I've gotten some reasobaly priced work attire through Chadwicks and its associates.

If I have to shop for clothing, yes -- catalog and Internet shopping rule. However, I've found a dearth of patterned blouses in the catalogs, and that's what I really need. I have a lot of solid-colored skirts and nothing to match. So off to the mall I go, alas.

are you good with stripes? the aforementioned chadwicks has a nice cotton blouse in two styles that's offered in several different stripes.

I can do some stripes, not others.

I'll have to check out the Chadwicks site; I used to get their catalog, but then it stopped coming because I didn't order out of it.

Thanks for the tip!

I volunteer to go clothes shopping with you, if you like, today even since we're getting together. Last time we went it went pretty well, I thought. :-)

Ooh! Would you really be OK with that? I'd be thrilled to have you come with (I'm thinking Sears again, like we did last time).

Thank you so, so much!

I really would be OK with that, so I'll meet you in the lobby of your building at 2 PM today then (if I'm right and you're thinking of going today), and off to the mall we will go! It's warmer out today; we'll have fun.

Yes, indeedy! Today let's meet in my lobby. Yay!

We'll have a good time walking and laughing, and I may actually end up with blouses. :-)

'Thinky' would be a good new opening word for Colbert... although I'm still enjoying 'superstantial.'

You're right -- Thinky is a Colbert-type word.

And I miss "Lincolnesque," but I like "superstantial."

I suspect that you and [livejournal.com profile] leorathesane approach yarncrafting in quite similar ways. I am of the sort who, by and large, can't buy yarn unless I have a specific project in mind for it. Leora will just pick up any yarn that catches her fancy, and, when I ask her what she's going to make with it, will say, "I don't know. I'll find out once I'm making it."

I usually buy yarn with a project in mind. I bought the now-glove yarn specifically to make socks with it. But there are times that I, apparently, try to box yarn into something it doesn't want to be.

I admit that sometimes I do buy yarn just for the yarn-ness of it. I bought some fingering-weight alpaca with no specific project in mind just because I loved the feel of it. It will, eventually, become gloves, I think. It just had to come home with me.

(this was the yarn-shopping trip I did with [personal profile] gem225 during which I safeworded in the yarn shop.)

But it also taught me that I like working with alpaca, and I'm planning a sweater for [personal profile] mabfan out of alpaca.

Stickynotes rule! :D

I rowed in the HotC a couple of years ago. I wish I were going this year, but alas, I am woefully out of shape and practice.

I remember you used to get up at ridiculous times of the morning to do nasty things to your muscles all in the name of rowing. :-)

And sticky notes is how I'm doing continuity-check reminders for books 3 and 4 as I'm rereading 4 in preparation for working on 3. I now have little stickies all over the printout of the front page of the back half of book 4 that say things like "P.225 --> double-check scene in book 1."

I used to, and I hope to do so again, soon.

And you rock as an editor. I mean, you rock anyway, but especially as an editor. The whole sticky-note thing is just so very cool. Thank you! :D

Thank you. I mean it. You and B have given me gold to work with here. I... I really will be sad when I've got to say goodbye to Tobias and Noah and Phan and Bradford and Nikki and Brian and Luca and Danny and Dee and ... ::redacted for spoilers::.

This sticky-note thing is new to me. I don't know why I never did it before, but I think it's really working for me.

I greatly appreciate your not minding when I get all twitchy about punctuation or word choice, or I seemingly randomly recast sentences.
