Last night, mabfan was watching the new Richard Donner version of Superman II as I was starting the Shabbat cooking. Somehow, in my twisted little brain, "Kneel before Zod!" became "Kneel before Zoidberg!"
More importantly, how was the movie? I thought Superman: The Movie was very good for its time, but painfully slow watching nowadays, like watching the original Rocky or Rocky II. I hated Superman II on almost all accounts and have never seen it from beginning to end in one sitting. I'm apparently one of the few people who enjoyed Superman III, which is odd since it has the same director (Lester) as the theatrical release of II. And I deny the existence of any future Superman movies, including Superman Returns.
We haven't finished watching the movie, but so far I'm enjoying it. At the moment, I can't say if it's better or worse than the original release, although it does seem fast-paced.
Superman III was like junk food; enjoyable but not really good for you.
