Most weeks (at least, weeks that we don't have invitations for both meals), I do a lot of cooking for Shabbat and then we eat leftovers for the majority of the rest of the week. Usually, I make one or two dishes and then figure out other sides that don't require as much work. Especially in the winter, when Shabbat comes in so early, I try to do some if not all of my cooking before Friday.

This week, for the first time in a good long while, I planned a menu that was made up mostly of made-from-scratch elements. And all but one contains at least one form of dairy product. I did some cooking last night, and finished up the cooking tonight. The menu is:

-- Corn chowder
-- Baked ziti with three cheeses
-- Honey-ginger-glazed carrots
-- Broccoli-rice casserole
-- Swiss vegetable medley
-- Chocolate chip cookie bars

There will be ice cream with the cookie bars for dessert, as well.

Hmm ... what's your corn chowder recipe look like? I really liked it the one time I made homemade, but I felt like it had too much potato or cream or something fatty/starchy. I'd be interested in comparing notes. :)

The corn chowder recipe is basically my fish chowder recipe (http://www.asknomi.com/chowder.html) but with corn in place of the fish. One can use canned corn, frozen corn, canned creamed corn, or any combination thereof.
