-- On Friday and Saturday of last week, we broke high temperature records for Boston for January. Today it's a much more respectable 38 (up from 33 when I first got to the office). For some odd reason, this comforts me.

-- Thank you to all of you who weighed in on my organizational question from Friday. I went with the overwhelming majority (and what had been my main instinct) and got an 8.5x11 3-ring binder and a bunch of the clear plastic sleeves, plus a set of dividers. This will be my pattern notebook, and when I get a chance I may even punch holes in all of my patterns that are currently in folders (organized by project type) and add them to the binder.

-- Again this year we're doing a birthday gathering for me Saturday night at Arisia. Stay tuned for more details.

-- Also Arisia-related: I'm going to be on 4 panels over the course of the weekend. If you're at Arisia and you want to say hi, feel free to track me down before or after a panel.

-- For reasons that I haven't figured out completely, my coworkers failed to eat all the chocolate coins I brought for Chanukah (possibly because of lack of proliferation of the information that they existed). If I put the chocolate in the kitchen, what's the likelihood of them not making it through the day uneaten?

-- Aside from the pattern-a-day calendar, I got a wall calendar for my cube for 2007. It wasn't until I had it up and was discussing dates with my mother about something that I noticed that the calendar grid is set M-Sun instead of the traditional Sun-Sat. I wonder if it has to do with the fact that it's published by a German company (whose name makes me now want some Hamantaschen. But that's neither here nor there).

-- Progress continues apace on various and sundry knitting projects. I'm trying to figure out what to bring to Arisia to knit. I may start a pair of gloves to knit there, because I can knit them without having to refer to the pattern frequently, and that's good for when I'm knitting during panels (last year at both Arisia and Boskone I knit socks). Alternately, I can take my feather-and-fan scarf (knit from baby alpaca yarn and oh, so soft), which is also a pattern I don't have to look at frequently.

i totally get what you mean about being comforted that it's cold out. it's normal again.

i'm going to new york this weekend and so will wish you a happy birthday party in advance. :> i had fun at the one last year. it gave me an excuse to get dressed up.

also, if you put the leftover gelt in the kitchen, i'm about 100% sure it will get eaten.

It's not really normal -- it just feels that way by comparison.

The forecast high for today for Boston was the highest of any city from Washington to Caribou.

It's comforting because it leads one to believe that the glaciers might put off completely melting for another year. I felt so guilty for enjoying the weather, knowing that polar bears were drowning in exchange for my comfort.

Or maybe that's just me.
