We're here in the home of chaos_wrangler and spouse-of-chaos_wrangler, in Queens. We've spent a quiet Shabbat here and at the house with family.

Some people have asked where the family has requested donations to be made. The charities they want donations to go to are:

-- Barnard College
-- The Joel Burstein Award Fund at Hunter College High School
-- The American Civil Liberties Union

We will be here in New York, sitting shiva in the Burstein house in Queens on Sunday afternoon. We'll be in Queens through Monday afternoon (if you wish to come by on Monday morning, please call first) and returning late Monday to Boston. As I mentioned in an earlier post, Michael will be sitting shiva in Brookline on Tuesday from 11 AM to 8 PM; on Wednesday from 11 AM to 3 PM and then from 6 PM to 9 PM; and on Thursday from 11 AM to 8 PM.

When did she go to Barnard? My maternal grandmother--also named Eleanor!--went there, though I'd have to ask my mother which years. Probably many years earlier. It was at the same time as Margaret Mead (they were friends), if that rings any bells. ::toddles off to make donation::

Class of '58. At the shiva house, I flipped through the yearbook (Mortarboard 1958). Found two women I knew from other places: Tamar Janowsky (Rabb), daughter of Oscar Janowsky (colleague of my uncle Joe Wisan) and wife of my Renaissance history prof (Theodore K. Rabb) at Princeton; and Jane Peyser Brooks, mother of a former neighbor in Park Slope.

I've been meaning to post as well. We're having car issues and can't make it to the shiva house this evening, though we'd been hoping to. Then we'd thought perhaps tomorrow after work, but it sounds as though you'll already be on the way back to Boston.
