A survey

Next week, I'm going to be attending Arisia, a local science fiction convention, and I will be a participant in a panel called "Livejournal and Other Blogs." Over dinner last night, MAB and I were discussing the phenomenon of LJ (see [livejournal.com profile] mabfan's most recent entry regarding how many LJers we encountered in the course of yesterday), and we got onto the topic of people who have found us and "friended" us without our having publicized the whereabouts of our LJs. So that got me to thinking - how have people found my journal?

And that is the thrust of this survey. Anyone who reads this post, please tell me how you found my journal. Do I know you personally? If so, did I tell you that I had an LJ? Were you one of the people who convinced me to start an LJ? Did you find me through a mention in someone else's LJ (and, if so, who)? Or did you find me some other way?

Oops, I thought I was replying to [livejournal.com profile] mabfan for some reason. Too little caffeine. Let's try again.

I might have been reading my friends-of-friends page at the time, or I might have poked my head in after seeing that you were a friend of multiple friends. Don't remember now. Anyway, when I got to your profile page I saw that we had some common interests, and when I read the journal I saw that (1) it was well-written and entertaining and (2) you are related to a good (non-LJ) friend, and all of this got me to start reading your journal.

I know you personally, and either found you through tahnan's or saxikath's profile, or maybe was told about it indirectly.

How Did I Find Your Journal

I know you from before you started keeping a LiveJournal, and I started to read it because I wanted to see what scurrilous things you were saying about me.

Hee hee!

I knew you before. I think I found your journal through weredeer's, but I'm not sure. I definitely read a comment from you in the journal of someone we mutually know.

Let's see...

I knew you both from before, and while I don't remember exactly how I found out you had LJs, I suspect it was by stumbling across you on others' friends lists, when I was first exploring around getting my LJ bearings.

We know each other in real life (see you at Arisia!), but I only found out you had an lj because you friended me. At which point, I friended you.

um, hi. *raises hand discreetly so [livejournal.com profile] mabfan doesn't hurt me* -- I'm the one who convinced you to get an lj in the first place. And I think I gave you paid account time too at some point. :)

So...the truth comes out! It's all your fault! It's all your fault! :-)

At least I got a free account out of it.

Hi! I've known both of you for years from cons and just found you here a couple of days ago when Michael posted your urls on the Malibu list:). I saw this thread and figured I'd say Hi!

Have fun at Arisia! I should be out that way for Lunacon and I-Con in March at least. Any chance you'll be at either of those?

I found you through Gail, who told me about the Friends thingie, (sorry, it's a little early for me, and I haven't had the second cup of coffee yet), so I click on that and get to peek into people's lives.

Ain't life grand?
