Since all the cool kids are doing it...
Jan. 21st, 2003 04:32 pm...a brief Arisia-related post.
The con was good and we had fun. Except for
mabfan getting sick on Sunday. Which was Not Fun. All of my panels went well, and I got to see lots of people I don't usually get to see.
The Kosher Konspiracy dinner was lovely. Much food was consumed, and many new people were met. Silliness abounded, as was to be expected.
Our "see people and eat cake" gathering on Friday night was much fun (I hope the attendees had as much fun as I did); afterwards MAB and I discussed the oddness of the combination of people sitting in the room at any given time - we had both fine fannish friends and fine pro-ish friends there at the same time, which is always odd for us.
I was on a panel at 10 PM on Friday that was remarkably well attended. And I had my own heckling section, part of which included one of the other panelists. :-) After the panel, MAB and I were sleepy, so we decided against going to room parties and instead went to bed (after the inevitable vortexing).
Saturday morning we woke up around 8:30. We had a number of panels to attend - MAB and I were on an 11:00 panel together, I had a 1:00 and 4:00, and MAB had a 5:00 - but we still had time to stroll around the dealers' room and to even see a panel neither of us was on (the 3 PM "Enterprise" panel, which had two of our friends on it).
My 4 PM panel was the LJ-related panel, and I was pleased to see a number of friends in the audience. And I made some new friends at the same time, which is always nice.
On Saturday night, we hit the dealers' room again (this time with money, so we could actually buy things) and then went up to dealers' row (on the 5th floor of the hotel). MAB bought me my annual pair of birthday earrings and we hung out in the jeweler's room for a while, shmoozing with the assembled multitude. We also went and visited
somehedgehog and
wildelven in the room they were working in (for one of the garb dealers), and that's where we watched the Arisia masquerade.
After we left them, MAB and I hit a couple of room parties plus went to the "floating wedding reception" of a couple of our friends. We were exhausted by that point, but we returned to one of the party rooms we'd been in before to track down the two people we'd been looking for all evening. Having found them both, we went back to the room and went to bed.
MAB was sick early the next morning, but we still tried to follow our original plan. It worked and didn't. In the end, I ended up leaving him at home and - at his insistence - going back to the convention to do my final panel. Afterwards, I tracked down a couple of people to say "goodbye" and then headed back home to tend to MAB. I apologize to anyone I didn't get a chance to say goodbye to.
Our next convention will be Boskone, in February in Boston. People should let us know if they're going to be there, so we can hook up and say "hi.
