Sharing the Penguin Love

It is somewhat well known that I am a fan of penguins. mabfan has bought me many a penguin, and he makes sure that I am prepared for the Penguinocracy.

I must say, however, that my sister, beckyfeld, is something of an enabler when it comes to penguins. And now she's introduced me to Penguin Place, which appears to be The Source for Everything Penguin.

I just note it for the other penguin fans around here.

HEE, I have to tell you, one of my new students made it a point to show me his new penguin pencil topper. Then at the end of the day when I was giving them hand stamps, he looks in the box and says, "Got any penguin ones?"

Rhodes Bird Garden in England. This was about 20 years ago.

It's a lovely spot -- and the flightless birds are allowed to wander as they will. I had on a gypsy skirt and, seemly, the penguin thought its motion was most appealing. It started trying to peck at me... so I ran...and it chased! Such a spectacle. It was surprisingly fast. And I do indeed run like a girl.

have you ever called the boston aquarium and listened to the penguins? because according to realsupergirl there's an option on their automated menu thing that will let you either talk to or listen to the penguins. i haven't called it yet so i don't know. but i figured if anyone i knew also knew about this, it would be you. /('v')\

So come to FilkOntario and meet all the rare Canadian filk penguins. The con always starts with a Tie & Tails reception where guests are strongly encouraged to interpret the theme with fannish gusto & creativity.

On the subject of well-named felines, a few years ago stevemb christened our new kitten (in pic) Vir Catto. This turned out to be prophetic. He grew up to be extremely smart, even more affectionate, a bit overweight, asthmatic, and such a devout coward that he jumps and looks for a place to hide when the doorbell rings *on TV*.
