Silver is hard. If you want something NOT grey, you're looking at either a totally hard to work with acrylic (I always have issues with shiny acrylics as they tend to split a lot more or actually hurt my hands) or something super expensive like silk or one of the fancy slippery bamboo mixes.
Yeah, that's what I've been finding. That's why I'm leaning toward "just use grey." It's just for K-9's ears, and you knit the silver and white together, so I'm not sure the silver is worth the tzuris.
I don't know if you're familiar with Yarndex, but a search there for DK, silver, plied came up with 41 results.
You know more specifically what you're looking for, what you can afford, and what lengths you're willing to go to to obtain the silver yarn, so I leave them for you to sort through. :)
I poked about at Yarndex this morning, and I'm still not sure what level of effort I'm willing to go through to find what is maybe going to be used for 3 yards or so. Thanks for the suggestion!
I've often found yarns labelled 5 st/inch and called DK, but I think of that as worsted. Shouldn't a DK be like 5.5 - 6? Anyway, I think you could fudge it with a smaller needle. Hope it works!
I said "other" on the yarn question. Is it possible to find that lighter-weight silver and a weight of grey that you like that, combined with the silver, will act like DK? Or pick a different color togo with the silver--a rich blue, a charcoal gray/black?
It's knit together with the white DK, so I'm trying the Berroco FX Metallic that introverte recommended. If it works, great. If not, back to the drawing board I go.
I'm trying the Berroco FX Metallic that introverte suggested. It's the wrong fiber (it's rayon and metallic) and the wrong weight (it feels more like a worsted weight), but since I need so little, and it's knit along with the white DK that I already have (in the correct fiber), I figure I'll try it and see what happens.
Mm, yeah, maybe. I'm going to play around with it tonight or something. The rest of K-9 is knit on 5s; I'll try doing his ears on 4s or 3s to compensate for the extra weight of the doubled yarn and the non-DK metallic. Good thought. Thanks!
