Happy 2008, all.

Every year on New Year's Day, I'm reminded of Colonel Sherman T. Potter:
Here's to the New Year. May she be a damn sight better than the old one...and may we all be home before she's over.

(from the episode "A War for All Seasons")

Because I celebrate a new year (in this case, 5768) in the fall, I'm frequently struck by the contrasts between the ways I celebrate the two. This year, however, we spent New Year's Eve with many of the folks with whom we spent parts of the Jewish new year season, so it wasn't all that different.

May the coming year bring each of you health and happiness.

Oddly, the secular new year is the one where I get to see the folks that I want to see, but can't, on Rosh Hashanna.

Many of them tend to be w/ family, out of town - although it is a subset that stick around for RH.

Happy New Year, again!

(It's not nearly as weird to celebrate it here, in the States, to me. Different new years for different things, really. We almost have 3 different ones- school, secular, and Jewish. Enough of my friends are teachers that their lives change based on the school year, not any of the others.)
