On Friday, batyatoon and I were talking about complex vs. simple carbs, and, being in Pesach mode, I said, "The simple carbohydrate asks, 'What's this?' To him you should explain about all the starches that are chametz, but not the afikomen."

Oh, man, that's awesome!

Say, since we're on the topic, my parents are going to be here the 25th - 28th. Can you give me any advice about how to be a good mid-Pesach hostess? He's Reform, so I won't need a different set of dishes, and he usually travels with pieces of matzah on him at all times (it's like searching for the afikomen - when the afikomen is always moving!), and I know not to say something stupid like, "Hey, Dad, want a bagel?" But what else could I do to help his visit go more smoothly?

I read this out loud to G and realized that "but not the afikomen" scans perfectly to "but not the hippopotamus", which is a lovely Boynton book.
