mabfan and I were watching "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" a couple of nights ago, and the name of the agent following Our Heroes finally hit me.
I know!! I was watching with the girl when that penny dropped for me, but since she's not, alas, a Sentinel fan, she didn't get why I was quietly having hysterics.
If I didn't like the actor they have playing Ellison so much, I'd be wistfully wondering what Richard Burgi could do with that part.
Obviously, there are references and references. I spent the first season assuming it was a nod to Harlan (as opposed to Ralph), but I gather from your comment there's another James Ellison running around somewhere?
the main character on a moderately terrible 1990's TV show called The Sentinel was one Detective James (Jim) Ellison. It's a show that had/has a large, loving, and highly productive fan-fiction fandom - the kind of terrible that left a lot of room for us to color around and outside the lines.
so, when I saw that name, that's the first reference that popped up, and it made me gleeful.
