-- A friend of mine is interested in finding someone to knit her a skirt. She has a pattern in mind (and she may have a yarn in mind, as well; I'm not sure about that), and she will pay cost of materials and labor.

-- The Israeli Army is looking for people to knit hats for Israeli soldiers. The pattern is simple, but they have requirements for the yarn.

If you're interested in either of these, let me know!

if i could knit, which i can't, i'd totally volunteer to knit a hat for an israeli soldier. but i can't knit. maybe i should learn....

mostly i wanted to comment to say that icon is the cutest thing EVER. knitting pengie! he looks a little stumped.

perhaps he is thinking that thumbs would be really useful.

Thumbs are helpful in knitting, yes. This puts the penguin at a disadvantage.

This chicken has thumbs and thus has less trouble.

snerk.

i have often opined that if my cats had thumbs, i'd be in trouble. i'm not sure what the state of the world would be if fowl had thumbs. perhaps miso soup would be more popular.

I decided I needed a knitting penguin icon, since I love knitting and I love penguins. :-)

If you want to teach me how to knit hats, say at Arisia...

I could do that!

I forget -- do you already know how to knit, or do you want to be taught that, as well?

I already knit my first Israeli soldier hat. I'm going to make a second, but after that - well, black yarn is not easy to knit with.

I got used to black yarn while doing my black cardigan (which I adore, so I'm glad I muddled through). But, yeah. It's among the hardest to knit.

Well, let me see the pattern first....

It's a K2P2 rib. It's really straightforward.

I'll e-mail you the pattern tonight when I'm home.

I'd love to know more about the knitting hats for soldiers thing. I love doing things like that. I still have family members who learned to knit scarves, hats, mitts, and socks for British soldiers in WWII. :)

Have your friend email me (or c'viridian) at rejectsheep at gmail dot com. We take commissions! We'll work out the details with her, depending upon how much time/yarn it takes.

I'll send her e-mail and let her know! Thanks so much!

I'm always happy to connect friends who have stuff with friends who need stuff and vice versa.

My friend [personal profile] cbpotts recently started doing Friday Pimp Posts to connect artists of all sorts with potential customers; you might want to connect with her.

marsgov pointed me at your blog, as he knows I'm looking to attract extra money and knit. If you want to have your friend contact me, info@ladyascrafts.com and we can discuss skirts and fees. Also, do you have the url for the army hats?

Hi, Mary.

There's not a URL for the army hats, as far as I know, but I can e-mail you the information this evening.

I'll let my friend know you're interested in the skirt knitting, as well.

I tried to send you the hat pattern to your @livejournal e-mail address (listed in your profile), but the e-mail bounced.

Please send me another e-mail address to send it to. You can e-mail me at gnomi [at] asknomi [dot] com.

I wish there were programs for crocheted hats for soldiers.

I haven't heard of one, alas. Of course, the only reason I heard about the knitting program was that the wife of the Rabbi Emeritus (does that make her the Rebbitzen Emeritus?) sidled up to me at kiddush to ask if I was interested (since she'd overheard me talking to someone else about knitting).

I was going to comment re crochet as well. *sigh*

There might be one; I just haven't heard of one.

Since I don't crochet, people don't send me crocheting opportunities.

I'm also interested in the hat knitting pattern. Assuming that the yarn requirements are not too onerous. (Black is not an issue as long as you use appropriately colored needles. What gets me are ultrabulky yarns that need needle sizes bigger than about 10. Those are hard on my hands.)

From: [identity profile] gnomi.livejournal.com
It's worsted weight yarn, so that shouldn't be an issue.

I'll send the pattern along.
