In today's Brookline Parent column I talk about the musical selections preferred by Muffin and Squeaker. "Singing for Your Supper or Any Other Occasion" can be read here.
This reminded me of one of Nadia's favorite songs when she was wee:
"What do you do with a crazy baby? You chop her up And put her in the gravy!"
Which you then have to tickle her belly. I'm not even sure where it came from, but she loved the song and demanded it. And being parents, you take that for granted...until that day you find yourself singing it to her on the beach and notice all the other parents are gradually edging away from where your family is camped out. Whoops!
This is a lovely article, and definitely rings true. As a preschool teacher, I've gotten into the habit of making up songs for nearly every subject and occasion--transitions in particular. FWIW, I've found that you can fit nearly any lyrics to "My Bonnie Lies Over The Ocean" and "Home On The Range."
