Great column! And I suspect that you and mabfan are far from the only parents who make choices like this. I don't think it's bad parenting. I think it's realistic parenting, and I think that's far more valuable in the end.

Just a quick note re: food. Our pediatrician said that you really cannot look at it meal by meal. You have to look at it over like a week long period. Did they eat from all food groups for the majority of their meals, and it was healthy stuff not fried junk?

Probably just fine then.
