I know very little about some of the people on my friends' list. Some people I know relatively well. I read your fic, or we have something else in common and we chat occasionally. Some of you I hardly know at all. Perhaps you lurk, for whatever reason. But you friended me and I thank you.

But here's a thought: why not take this opportunity to tell me a little something about yourself. Any old thing at all. Just so the next time I see your name I can say: "Ah, there's so and so...she likes spinach."

I'd love it if every single person who friended me would do this. Yes, even you people who I know really well. Then post this in your own journal.

I once had a swordfight in the snow with rolls of wrapping paper on the corner of 116th St. and Broadway. :)

I thought of a couple...

and I like talking about myself. So I'm going to give you two for the price of one!

When I was 16 I went to Japan for the summer as an exchange student. I don't speak any Japanese!

I have size 11 feet.

I also have size 11 feet :-) And speak no Japanese, but then I've never been to Japan either.

I'm full of contradictions (I'm a restless wandering homebody, a loner who loves to be surrounded by people, shy yet love to be on stage, and many more.), I like being a devil's advocate, and I don't mind spinach ;).

In the US, I have only lived in Massachusetts.

Bonus track: the book I think of as my favorite during high school was The Count of Monte Cristo.

I am descended from the original Gerrer Rebbe, the Chidushei HaRim, on my mother's side, and am purportedly distantly related to Franz Kafka on my father's side.

I'm a small amount of paperwork away from being able to join Daughters of the American Revolution. But I understand that group to be rather politically far from me, so I haven't bothered. Not even when I thought they might give me scholarship money.

I'm the greatgranddaughter of a tailor and a cigar shop owner. I'm the granddaughter of a printer, and the daughter of an editor. Having turned out to be an editor and writer, it seems as though my career was pre-ordained, doesn't it?

While I do not have small children of my own, I have a number in my life. Therefore, my refrigerator still has drawings magneted to it.

I went to my first science-fiction convention specifically to hear the music group Clam Chowder, which I had heard via a friend's record (yes, actual vinyl).

I once tried to explain Cepheid variable stars to my mother while we ate at a barbeque restaurant. I was about seven years old. Yes, I was a geek even then!

For the last 4 days of 1999 I was in Indianapolis at a Presbyterian youth conference. But I actually spent the majority of that time sneaking away with a friend of mine who lived in the area to smoke pot & eat hash browns with the 'Indianapolis lesbians.' That was my first indication that maybe it was time to be leaving Christianity.

And I do like spinach. But I like chocolate better.

I've now dated three boys who wear a trenchcoat with a fedora. (They also tend[ed] to wear all black.)

I like vinegar on everything except fruit and desserts. I even wash down pills with it.

You tell me one thing, as well.

I've always loved to write. At the age of 13 I started keeping a journal. I was on the staff of my high school magazine.

But from 1973 until 1999, I wrote no fiction at all.

I created my own country, Jennias, of which I was queen. This dates from when I was 5 or 6. Jennias is shaped like a griffin including a lake for an eye.

I love comic books and webcomics. I've mostly outgrown mainstream comics, but it's the medium I think in. The flexibility of webcomics and all the nonlinear episodic or serial narratives that blend images and text really make me happy, and they're showing up all over the place on the web now.
