Tromp, Tromp, Tromp!
Jul. 21st, 2005 10:13 pmToday's overarching theme was walking. Tromp! Tromp! Tromp!
This morning, we went out to meet a friend for an early lunch. It was lovely to see her, and the conversation was much fun.
And then
mabfan and I walked to Brooklyn. And I got a slight sunburn. But the walk (as part of a Big Onion walking tour) was lovely, and the breeze as we walked the bridge was quite wonderful given the 95-degree-plus weather. And I took a whole roll of pictures (to go with the roll of pictures I took during Monday's walking tour of Central Park). When we finished up in Brooklyn Heights and the tour broke up,
mabfan and I stopped briefly for a cold drink and then headed back to the house.
Around the corner from my mother-in-law's house is an optometrist. On her recommendation, I took my broken glasses there, to see if the glasses could be repaired. As it turned out, they could not, but the optometrist offered to see if he had a pair of frames that would fit my lenses (since my lenses were fine and just the frames were toast). Much to my amazement (and his, really), he was able to find a pair of frames that fit my lenses almost perfectly, so he transferred my lenses into the new frames and off I went (after paying for the frames, of course, which were much, much cheaper than a new pair of glasses would've been).
Right after I returned from the optometrist,
mabfan and I headed back into Manhattan to meet a friend for dinner. We had a lovely dinner and some fun conversation, and then we went briefly to a bookstore.
And now we're back in Queens and I'm catching up with e-mail and LJ and all the stuff I didn't get a chance to check this morning before we headed out.
