gnomi: (penguin)
[personal profile] gnomi
I came home tonight to find that [personal profile] mabfan had bought me a (slightly early) birthday gift: a really, really big plush penguin. It's over 2 feet tall, and it is quite cute. And after I squeed the squee of the newly en-penguined, I brought the giant penguin into the bedroom to integrate it into our stuffed animal menagerie.

Now, you must understand -- there's something of a hierarchy in our stuffed animal menagerie. We have a stuffed lion cub puppet that we got a number of years ago at Arisia. We named it Leonardo (many of our animals have punny names; the lion cub's full name is Leonard DiCatrio. We have a bison named Freeman; we have a polar bear named Coordinates and a giraffe named Vander). Leonardo (or Nardo, as he has become known) fancies himself the king of the animal menagerie, and he considers every other animal to be his potential snack. So as [personal profile] mabfan held the new penguin, I took out Nardo (who is, as I mentioned, a puppet).

The following conversation ensued:
Me: Nardo, we have a new penguin in the household.
Nardo: Penguin snack!
Me: You'd better see the new penguin before you decide.
[personal profile] mabfan moves the penguin into Nardo's "line of sight."
Nardo: And I, for one, welcome our new penguin overlords.

I was seriously considering getting you a large stuffed toy penguin based on a prior post of yours.

Now I'm reduced to perusing your Amazon wish lists. Are they up to date?

I have been referring people to [livejournal.com profile] gnomi's Amazon Wish lists should they want to look at them for any reason. :-)

What's so silly about this? Isn't this a normal conversation for stuffed animals?

We just watched March of the Penguins. You should definitely watch it with your new Pengo.

now you just need a couple of big plastic penguins from newbury comics.... plant them in strategic places in the house to keep an eye on things. :>

Alas, I now think of the book G got for Hanukah now every time I think of penguins. Have you seen And Tango Makes Three? It's a children's story about the gay penguins at the Central Park Zoo, a.k.a. "Tango Has Two Daddies." I've read it three times since it arrived by UPS at 4 this afternoon.

Cute! I'm surprised at the change in command, though... (And I really think you'll like Joseph's book!)

so, if the king of beasts bows to the supremacy of the penguin, does that mean it's an emperor penguin?
