gnomi: (alternate_kitty)

Back from Arisia; back in the office. I'm a very sleeeeeeeepy [personal profile] gnomi, but the con was most excellent. Some brief points; I'll post a longer con wrapup when I've acquired additional working brain cells.

1. It was wonderful to see everyone I saw this weekend. Hugs, virtual or real, to all of you.

2. My panels went well. I got many compliments on the one on Sapir-Whorf (which I moderated). They put the panel in a small room (which, given that it was a somewhat obscure topic for an SF convention and on Friday at 6 PM, made sense) and the room was overflowing. Other panels also went well. More on all this later.

3. I was touched and amazed by the number of people who showed up to wish me well on my (upcoming) birthday. Many, many people all in one place; lots of people from different segments of my life got to meet each other and intermingle. Only one item got left behind. Many generous people gave me gifts; I shall be writing thank-you notes this week.

4. One gift was wrapped and contained no card. I have no clue who gave me the lovely book, and I therefore cannot properly thank them. So if you gave me, or know who gave me, ReMemory: The Art of Bill Koeb, please do let me know.

5. Party finally broke up at about 1:15 AM, and we then cleaned up and fell into bed at about 2. Got up at 8:30 to bring stuff back home before [personal profile] mabfan's noon panel on Sunday. Lack of sleep means lack of brain. After more sleep, there will be more brain. And then there will be a more coherent post.

It was good to see you both, even if we weren't able to make the party. :(

*sends many good birthday wishes and hugs*

It was great to see you both, as well. And I completely understand "fall-over-go-boom" after a late panel.

And thanks for the birthday wishes and virtual hugs!

*hugs back*

I've heard good thirdhand reviews of the party. :) Maybe, one of these days, years down the pike, I could actually sneak away to Boston this time of year and witness for myself.

That would be most excellent. We try to do an Arisia birthday thing every year (this year was just more elaborate than most years).

That would be from Jon and I. Sorry about the shoddy wrapping. Jon had it with him returning from a business trip in Atlanta and Homeland Security was not kind.

I'm very happy you like it.

Completely understandable. Wrapping paper tends to confuse people who don't have X-ray vision.

The book is gorgeous.

The party ran that long? Wow. Now I feel like I left way early! (grin)

Oh, and happy birthday!

Thanks!

Past experience told us it would be unlikely if everyone was gone before 1, and we were correct.

Sorry I had to run out on the party... if I'd realized you were there so late, I would have come back (I thought 12:30 would be too late). Oh well. At least I got to give you your present! :-)

I knew you had a meeting, so no worries. And Solomon took photos of me opening the card and gift (which looks wonderfully complicated; I look forward to getting a chance to take a stab at it), so I'll give you copies when I get the film developed.

Thank you!

I am quite fond of hippos, actually. And many, many of them would be quite fun. Though they'd take up quite a bit of space. :-)

I really enjoyed the Sapir-Whorf panel.

Oh, I'm so glad. I thought it was a fun and interesting panel, but I never know if what the panelists think of a panel translates to what the audience thought.
