gnomi: (alternate_kitty)
OK, so the week got busy and updating didn't happen nearly as frequently as I'd hoped. Here's what we've been up to since I posted on Monday:

-- On Tuesday morning, MAB and I ran errands in MAB's mom's neighborhood, and then we headed into Manhattan for lunch with Stanley Schmidt, editor of Analog magazine. Over lunch, MAB and Stan discussed ideas for stories, and both MAB and Stan took the opportunity to nudge me about the article I want to write for Analog on Language Lag (this article has been many years in the planning; it's now in the research stage, so I'm getting closer, but it's still a long way off). After lunch, we ran through a torrential downpour to see a friend of ours at his office, and then we went uptown to the hospital to see MAB's mom. We visited there for about an hour and a half, and then headed back downtown for dinner with friends (well, friend, as it turned out, 'cause one got lost and never found us). Dinner was much fun, with lots of talking about writing and other fun pursuits. After dinner, we went back to the house and collapsed (after writing our requisite two pages for the night).

-- On Wednesday, MAB had a dentist appointment, and then we went into Manhattan to meet up with a bunch of people for lunch. After lunch, we headed uptown to the Natural History Museum, where they have an exhibit all about the life and career of Albert Einstein (the exhibit closes this weekend, so we felt lucky to have gotten there before it was gone), and then to the New-York Historical Society to see their exhibit Petropolis, about the history of housepets in New York City. After the museum, we went back to the hospital to see MAB's mother for a bit, and then headed back downtown for dinner with [personal profile] mamadeb and [personal profile] jonbaker. Dinner was lovely, with lively conversation on all sorts of topics. After dinner, we went back to the house, wrote our 2 pages, and went to sleep.

-- On Thursday, we met our friend Bob for lunch for his birthday. Little did he know that while we were having lunch, a small cadre of friends was setting up a small surprise party in his office. When we returned with Bob to his office, they all surprised him and presented him with an ice cream cake. It was much fun, and it gave us an opportunity to see friends we otherwise might not have had a chance to see this trip. After the other folks left, we had a chance to continue shmoozing with Bob until we and he had to go off to other things. We headed off to the Barnes & Noble at the Citigroup Center, where we met up with our friend David for coffee. And we bought some books. That shouldn't surprise anyone, though. We then met [personal profile] stakebait and took her back to Queens, where we met up with [personal profile] sdelmonte and [personal profile] batyatoon for dinner. Much laughter, conversation, and silliness ensued, and then we headed back - taking stakebait with us - to MAB's mother's house. We proceeded to talk until about midnight, when we realized that between work in the morning and a train in the morning, it was probably time to send stakebait home. So we accompanied her to the subway and then, once she was safely on a train, went home, packed a bit, and then went to sleep.

-- This morning, we left at 7:45 for Penn Station for our train. Other than the train running about 20 minutes late, the trip was uneventful. So now we're home and are preparing for shabbat.
