I coined a new word today for that which I do way too often:

procrastisurf: To avoid a task by surfing the Web

In fact, I'm doing it now. :-)

Something *you'd* know -- is there any validity to calling this symbol -- ? -- an "information point"? That's apparently what G's preschool teacher is teaching the kids it's called.

I can make a certain sense of this -- balance with the "exclamation point" and the fact that the symbol often marks places where one might get information, rather than merely designating an interrogative sentence. Still, I was a bit shocked, and distrustful given the teachers' grasp of standard grammar and spelling.

I've heard of question marks being called "interrogation points" but never "information points". I think the teacher is confusded.

Not that I know of. I poked around the Web a bit, and I couldn't find anywhere that used that terminology.

I think the teacher is misinforming G and his classmates.

I find no such animal in either the Chicago Manual of Style or Words into Type... nor in Eats Shoots and Leaves, which leans more to British style. I don't think it would be inappropriate to ask her where she got that expression; you could try putting it across as innocent curiosity if you don't want to put her on the defensive.
