The set up: [personal profile] mabfan and [personal profile] gnomi have heated a glass bowl of edamame in the microwave.

[personal profile] mabfan: Wow, that's really hot. How're we going to get it out?

[personal profile] gnomi: Teflon fingers!

[personal profile] gnomi removes the bowl from the microwave with her bare hands.

[personal profile] mabfan: Don't you know the first law of Chemistry Lab?

[personal profile] gnomi: You do not talk about Chemistry Lab?

Yeah, yeah, I know -- it's "Hot glass looks the same as cold glass."

No, no. The first law of Chemistry Lab is "don't lick Acid Girl's fingers."

Schlurp!

Heee!

We've told the tale of Acid Girl to others. They always get that same "WTF" look on their faces. :-)

Yeah -- I use either "teflon fingers" or "asbestos fingers" interchangeably.

OW? I have tender, sensitive fingers. Sometimes, things are too hot even through pot holders. Heh.

Oddly enough, I can take hot things out of the microwave/off the hotplate without pot holders (though not out of the oven, usually), but carrying a cup of hot coffee from the Starbucks down the street to my office requires a double cup and sometimes one of those cardboard sleeves, as well.

It's probably duration -- I'm only holding the hot bowl/pan/whatever for a minute or so, whereas it's a 5-minute walk from the Starbucks to my office, giving the heat time to actually register for me.

I knew the first law of Chemistry Lab as "Don't be a schnorrer, add acid to water".

That works, too.

I know I try my best to not talk about Chemistry Lab, ever. I'm still scarred (by the memories, not by acid or anything. Hee.).
