I wear panty house, but I notice runs in my stockings. Heh.

But I avoid wearing the nasty things at all costs.

I actually don't wear nylons, but that's the phrase that sounded more correct to me.

i noticed the run in my stockings. "nylons" makes me think of windbreakers. i wonder if that's a regional us thing, nylons vs stockings vs pantyhose.

mmm, doughnuts....

i wear panty hose but i call them stockings. even though i "know" that stockings actually refers to thigh-highs.

(actually, what i wear are tights because i like the opacity and they're far more comfortable: i wore panty hose before i discovered the joy of tights. i called them stockings.)

Yes, yes, exactly!

Except I often DID wear thigh-highs under my corporate clothes. Not so much with the true stockings, because garter belts are complicated beasties and the clips aren't comfortable to sit on. Garter belts are for Rocky Horror and similar occasions only.

Now I wear checked pants and Doc Martens every day, so it's athletic socks for me!

Man, I love that song.

"Time and tide wait for no man" always reminds me of a movie one of my accquaintances made in college. It was called Really Decadent Guys, and one of the characters was the Minister of Philosophy, who spent all of his time thinking "deep" (and usually oh-so-wrong) thoughts. One of my favorites went like this: "Time waits for no man. No man is an island. Therefore, time waits for islands."

"Bookends" is one of my favorite lesser-known Simon and Garfunkel tunes. When we saw them live a couple of years ago, they did that as the opening song.

A childhood fondness that's persisted into adulthood. I also know all the words (and the entrance cues) for the Canticle, and if a group is doing "Scarborough Faire" as a singalong, I WILL come in with it.

Have I just lost all my Goth cred? ;^)

Heh. Your Goth cred is intact. Fear not.

I can (and will, at the drop of a hat) sing all sorts of S&G or just Paul Simon. I love their music.

I'd notice a run in my stockings- I never call the, nylons or panty hose. but i might also notice a run in my tights.

Tights, in my little world, are thicker than panty hose, and usually a color - like navy or white. Stockings/panty hose are skin-colored.

and they're far more comfortable than stockings/pantyhose, IMAO. but i think farwing was making the same distinction i was.

yes- i agree with you. sorry if i was unlcear. except that stockings can be black or navy- it's the thickness that makes the difference, to me.

Yes, you're right, actually. Stockings can be a color. I own a pair in black! Duh!

I answered panty hose on that, but I'm just as likely to call them stockings, in fact maybe more likely. And nylons is known to come out of my mouth as well.

Now this is really funny. I was going to comment on the nylons/panty hose question. I was going to discuss how different I am from others since I say "stockings" instead of panty hose. I see, however, from comments, that I am not as unique as I imagined. I wonder if it is a regional thing and I'm just out of whack - I don't hear it often from others and sometimes wonder if I skipped a generation :).

"stockings", although they're actually tights. And tend to be of the thick and heavy variety, so they don't often get runs. They more often get holes.

I tend to use pantyhose, stockings, and nylons interchangeably. I also use stockings and tights interchangeably, but not pantyhose or nylons for tights.

On reflection, I think my use of nylons is an artifact of playing a game set in the 1940s and drawing lines up the back of my legs with no stockings, which solidified the "nylons, oh, the things made of nylon" connection for me. I didn't use it so much when I was growing up. It's never been a windbreaker.

I used to get holes in my stockings. Now I get holes in my socks. We hates the evil stockings/hose/whatever, hates them we doessss. Only wear them once or twice a year and peel them off ASAP after whatever event made me turn to such a miserable garment.

A run in my STOCKINGS. No, seriously. I don't call them that in every day language -- either tights or pantyhose, but if I get a run, it's in my stockings. Maybe it's because my Mom is vintage 1922 and it's what she always called them in my hearing.

They're pantyhose when you're buying a pair or when you're compaining about how uncomfortable they are. But when they get a run in them, they're STOCKINGS.

That's just how it is.

2. Given the option, I will generally answer "narf!" to almost any question.
