Signs I saw while in Virginia Beach for EPICon:

No Zapf Dingbats?

No Zapf Dingbats

Ahhh, so that explains it!

This, though, I never figured out.

Balconices are in the calypso! The gostak is that which distims the doshes! The mome raths outgrabe!

Clearly I'm in a silly mood and should go back to sleep furiously.

When I googled for "balconice," it got a few hits but suggested "balcanice." Most of the hits for the latter were in Romanian. Maybe it's what they keep their drinks cold with in the Balkans.

Well, "balconices" is clearly the plural of "balconix." Since it's in the calypso, it has to be a musical term of some sort. Possibly something loud and startling done by a percussionist.

Perhaps it's a kind of dance step...

Not only is the second sign perplexingly word salad-ish, but my research suggests that it may actually be misinformation. Was your conference here by any chance? If so, *every* room should have a balconice, which need not be confined to the Calypso! (cackles)

It was, in fact, at that hotel. And, yes, every room had a balcony. Not sure about a balconice, however -- I saw no ice on our balcony. :-)
