My husband had the Tardis materializing for awhile. It was great; sometimes we'd be walking down the street and we'd both start looking, expecting a big blue police box to suddenly appear. The only problem was that it was hard to hear it in restaurants or bars, which made it only semi-useful.

Heee! I love it.

[personal profile] mabfan has the Star Trek communicator beep as his ring and the botswain's whistle as his indicator that he's got a message. It frequently makes me giggle.

I had that for a while, it thoroughly annoyed my housemates, girlfriend and family members, so I switched to a different geeky ring.

Speaking as someone whose current ringtone is the theme to Torchwood.....

And it will be on the new phone, too, once I figure it out. :)

Heh.

My only concern now is whether the clip I'm thinking of is spoilery and, thus, whether I should wait for all of series 3 to air before I implement the new ring.

What's the clip?

(assume I'm spoilered through S3)

It's a very brief bit from episode 11 (I think...) of season 3. I don't want to be more explicit here, since some folks on my f-list are avoiding spoilers.

At least on my phone, if you have an MP3 file, you can send it to the phone and then choose it as a custom ring. [personal profile] mabfan did it to create his current ring tones.

Cool. So you don't have to pay ridiculous per-month charges for nifty ringtones?

I'm shopping for a new phone. I think I need to include this capability. I have a number of nifty options to use as ringtones!

(I think I'll use "Wipeout" for my dad's for instance...not quite as funny if you don't know my dad. :-)

My current ringtone is an excerpt of the Buckaroo Banzai theme.
Sounds close enough to normal ringtones that it doesn't set off too many odd looks from mundanes.

At a lunch a while back, somebody was playing their various ringtones.
Disturbingly, the Star Wars Cantina song sounds like it could be a standard ringtone.
And I was rather impressed by the Quantum Leap theme.

I've been toying with a Journey of the Sorcerer (HHGTG) ringtone, but don't have it sounding quite right.
Meanwhile, I'm seriously thinking of getting "Dance of the Hours" by Ponchielli as a custom ringtone specifically for my parents...

The clip is, in fact, from a Ten-Jack scene from series 3. So I may hold off on doing this until the episode has aired in the States. Just in case, y'know? I don't want to accidentally spoil someone on the bus.

Hee. I'm a spoilerphobe, but even I've heard Things about Jack (and Martha, and Donna). As for details, la la la not listening ....

So did you just pick up the clip somewhere out there, or have you seen series 3? I'm keeping to the SciFi pace -- though they're such butchers I've seriously considered buying a region 2 DVD player and buying the season straight from the UK ....

I have the tools to create ringtones, but I haven't played with them yet. If I ever do, I think I'd like either the Tardis noise or a version of the theme song from the TBaker or Davison years. Even though I think Tennant is the cutest Doctor yet. (Someday I might even experiment with using different rings for different people -- gasp, I know -- and in that case I might just make one out of "Are we in Scotland!?" Because that accent ... ::swoon::)

I'm cranky TWoP dropped the recaps, but that's a grumble for another day ....

Well, for a while I was using a bit of the Dr. Who theme. I decided that was too annoying, and switched to a recording of a WWII submarine dive horn (ah-OOOO-gah! ah-OOOOO-gah!). During a visit to my sister, I was informed in no uncertain terms that it wasn't acceptable. I switched to a boatswain's whistle (although I admit that I really wanted the recording of a boat's collision alarm (whoo-ooop! whooo-ooop!).

Now, having seen Epsidoe 12, I am using GarageBand on my Mac to... uh... well, you can probably guess. I'm going to see how it sounds on my phone... need a copy? Or have you got something else? Wanna trade?

I've got a clip of dialogue from the third season (just finished in the UK, just started in the US), from one of the later eps. I'm thinking of using it as my ring for my phone, but I'm not sure.

http://www.tvsgreatesthits.com/tvthemes.asp is a good source for tv theme songs in MIDI (not MP3) format. Think electronic keyboard arangements. Good for older phones that don't support MP3. Some are good reproductions, some not.

Well, I was going to say it depends on the ring, but upon reflection I realized that it was way too geeky regardless of the ring. In terms of people's reactions, you'd probably get very different reactions depending on whether it said "Doctor!", "Da da, da da da da...", "Could anyone pass the sodium chloride, please?" or "Exterminate!" And a different one still if it said "The whole world can be ours. I only need two things - your submission and your obedience to my will!" See. It's just too geeks no matter what.
