Fifth LJ-Versary

Today marks the fifth anniversary of my starting my LiveJournal. It's hard for me to believe it's been that long, and simultaneously it's hard for me to believe it's been that short a time. This place, this forum, has become a home, a place I can talk to my friends and family. Folks here have shared in my joys and my sorrows, have been there for me in good times and bad, and have indulged me in my weirdnesses.

I've met some wonderful folks through my LJ, and I've gotten to better know others whom I had known only in passing before. I've made new friends and rediscovered old ones. I've discovered people with similar beliefs and interests and people with wildly divergent beliefs and interests, with members of both groups becoming close friends and confidantes.

I thank eal for bringing me into this world of LJ. It happened kind of like this:

gnomi: ceases to respond to e-mail due to crazy schedule stuff

eal: You there?

Time passes.

eal: Everything OK?

More time passes.

eal: You still alive?

Still more time passes.

eal: OK, here's an LJ code. Go online and *tell* me you're still alive.

…and so I did.

When I started here, I had doubts I'd use the journal frequently, if at all. And here I am, five years and 1,335 (this one is 1,336) entries later, firmly ensconced.

Whoa. My five year was 11 days ago, and I didn't even notice.
Congratulations.
I know that having this journal has helped me keep track of time and events and dates much better than I ever have managed before. I'm not sure it's been better socially, but I'm still working through that part.

And it's been a great way for us to stay in touch.

And yeah -- I'm not always good with the keeping-in-touch thing, and LJ has definitely allowed me to keep in touch with people (such as you) that I keep meaning to e-mail and then totally failing to do so.

Speaking of which, we should make some sort of plan to see each other at some point in the near future.

You're one of those people who I think it's inevitable that we would've met *somehow*. LJ made it less convoluted, however (though I seem to recall that we *first* met in a chat).

To clarify point a, I do remember that I coaxed you onto lj, but I don't really remember how I did it. And now we know why you're the one in charge of remembering things :)
